The Future of Green Collar Jobs

There are blue collar jobs and white collar jobs. Make room in your closets America because green collar jobs are here and increasing rapidly. With local, state and federal legislation happening across the country, green jobs are becoming available to those individuals who train and study to work toward a green energy future.

Business is increasing for contractors with certifications in the green energy industry such as Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accreditation and Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certifications. Renewable energy is another option for green job training with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Certification for Wind and Solar Energy, as well as the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Certification for Geothermal Energy.

Editor's Note: Reading is fine if you know the subject matter. However if you're new to the industry, it may be helpful to see a video or two about BPI certification process. Check out this live training on YouTube about CleanEdison BPI Certification, or BPI Certification.

These five types of credentials can allow businesses access to local, state and federal government funding for homeowners across the country, making the credentialed a business ideal. Not only will these credentials be required in the future of energy efficiency construction and design, but it allows current businesses to bolster their resume, and show current clients they are taking the green initiative seriously.

A green collar job can mean a lot of different things, but they are based on helping provide a more energy efficient environment for the future. There is a lot of potential for continued growth in the green industry because now the technology is catching up with the ideas to move toward this initiative. Being trained to do BPI certified home energy audits; work on LEED certified buildings, install/repair solar, wind and geothermal equipment, etc. puts you in a great position for finding a job in this poor job market. If you are already employed, these certifications are crucial for businesses looking to sustain profitability in the coming years.

CleanEdison is a national training provider that offers all of the certifications for the aforementioned industries. You may qualify for free training if you are unemployed or underemployed.
