Effective Tasks Delegation on the Job

Effective tasks delegation on the job is the key to efficiency and smooth flow of work in any office set-up. It results in reduced workload, less stress and more time left available for other matters. However, before delegating any work, the following factors should be considered;

Whom to delegate to: Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of an employee before assigning to them additional workload is very important. This enables you to know who can comfortably handle extra tasks and who would only mess things up. Work that is urgent should not be given to a slow worker or those who already have too much work pending on their desks.

Give clear instructions: It is essential to spell out proper guidelines and issue very clear instructions. To avoid being misunderstood, it is be necessary to make sure the instructions are properly grasped before the task is attempted. This can be done by asking the employee to repeat in their own words their understanding of the task at hand.

Periodic Checks: Don't just wait for the finished assignment. Periodically check that the work is being done as per the instructions and to your satisfaction. This prevents time wastage as the piece of work may have to be done again because somebody got it all wrong from the onset. One should, however, note that the employee should not be pestered. The worker should be allowed as much freedom as possible to complete the assignment.

Effective tasks delegation on the job ensures the smooth running of the office even when you are away. This is because through it, employees are able to build their confidence as they are trained to handle even seemingly difficult tasks and even clients. It creates a sense of teamwork in the office and brings the much needed relief from work overload you may sometimes so desperately need.
